(when I say regular, I mean that the boinc user is not active on my system, but all Boinc processes are handled by Boinc : Boinc, not sure to be clear enough. ![]() So there is no way to get rid of the Boinc user, but to be able to run it with a different user, you can copy the default password from "gui_rpc_auth.cfg" or simply let the Boinc group allowed to run the application (indeed your user must be a part of the Boinc group).ĭoes one of you know why it must be run by a different user (boinc) rather than a regular one ? Make sure to take care of any firewall details if required (between your management client and boinc server). ![]() This can usually be achieved via the menu editor in your desktop environment of choice. Then fire up your boinc client manager on Windows or Linux or whatever, point it at your boinc server, and start configuring it or monitoring running sessions. ![]() If you make the file readable by the boinc group and ensure that the manager is run with /var/lib/boinc as the working directory, you should find that the client connects to the daemon automatically, as desired. BOINC comes as an official part of Debian and with it of Ubuntu, Mint and many others. Boinc Manager will also look for a readable gui_rpc_auth.cfg file in the current working directory. If you don't like the idea of having this file in your home directory, there is an alternative approach. boinc I get:ġ 05:36:31 Starting BOINC client version 7.14.2 for x86_64-pc-linux-gnuġ 05:36:31 log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task, sched_op_debugġ 05:36:31 Libraries: libcurl/7.64.0 GnuTLS/3.6.7 zlib/1.2.11 libidn2/2.0.5 libpsl/0.20.2 (+libidn2/2.0.5) libssh2/1.8.0 nghttp2/1.36.0 librtmp/2.3ġ 05:36:31 Data directory: /home/radjin/BOINCġ 05:36:31 gathered: 2.28, Debian GLIBC 2.28-10ġ 05:36:31 Processor: 8 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2700K CPU 3.50GHz ġ 05:36:31 Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe syscall nx rdtscp lm constant_tsc arch_perfmon pebs bts rep_good nopl xtopology nonstop_tsc cpuid aperfmperf pni pclmulqdq dtes64 monitor ds_cpl vmx est tm2 ssse3 cx16 xtpr pdcm pcid sse4_1 sse4_2 popcnt tsc_deadline_timer aes xsave avx lahf_lm epb pti tpr_shadow vnmi flexpriority ept vpid xsaveopt dtherm ida arat pln ptsġ 05:36:31 OS: Linux Debian: Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster) ġ 05:36:31 Memory: 31.30 GB physical, 15.89 GB virtualġ 05:36:31 Disk: 884.49 GB total, 750.54 GB freeġ 05:36:31 Local time is UTC -7 hoursġ 05:36:31 Config: use all coprocessorsġ 05:36:31 Last benchmark was 18156 days 12:36:31 agoġ 05:36:31 No general preferences found - using defaultsġ 05:36:31 max memory usage when active: 16024.55 MBġ 05:36:31 max memory usage when idle: 28844.18 MBġ 05:36:31 max disk usage: 751.0 20:46:17 Starting BOINC client version 6.10.58 for x86_64-pc-linux-gnuĠ 20:46:17 log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, taskĠ 20:46:17 Libraries: libcurl/7.21.1 OpenSSL/1.0.0a zlib/1.2.5Ġ 20:46:17 Data directory: /home/nabĠ 20:46:17 Processor: 2 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz Ġ 20:46:17 Processor: 1.00 MB cacheĠ 20:46:17 Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe syscall nx lm constant_tsc pebs bts pni dtes64 monitor ds_cpl cid cx16 xtpr lahf_lmĠ 20:46:17 Memory: 2.94 GB physical, 258.86 MB virtualĠ 20:46:17 Disk: 438.88 GB total, 336.37 GB freeĠ 20:46:17 Local time is UTC +2 hoursĠ 20:46:17 NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce 9600 GT (driver version unknown, CUDA version 3010, compute capability 1.1, 511MB, 208 GFLOPS peak)Ġ 20:46:17 No general preferences found - using BOINC defaultsĠ 20:46:17 max memory usage when active: 1507.09MBĠ 20:46:17 max memory usage when idle: 2712.75MBĪny idea, quiet a generic error message, but not enough to troubleshot boinccmd alone I get the help list meaning boinccmd is responding. boinccmd with any option I get that response. When I run “./boinccmd -project_attach ” I get the “cannot connect to localhost”. After installing boinc client, boinc manager and virtualbox, first go into your system's user/group manager (you will need root access to do this), and look for group 'boinc' - it will be a system group. I apt removed, purged and autoremoved then installed the aforementioned package.Ĭurrently my biggest problem is the one in the title. These instructions are for openSUSE 15.4, but should work on any Linux distro. Asking around the forums, as that is the project I run on other computers, I received a good suggestion to install a packaged setup optimized for my GPU and is totally within the /home directory. ![]() I installed Boinc on my Debian Buster Linux box and had trouble getting it to work.
